Arctic Shaman Village is a unique accommodation and experience center located in the heart of Finnish Lapland, near Levi. The property combines a traditional guesthouse with authentic handcrafted yurts, creating a mystical, culturally rich setting inspired by Arctic nature and shamanic traditions.
We offer:

  • 18 twin rooms in the main guesthouse
  • 8 traditional 2-person yurts with atmospheric interiors
  • A full range of Arctic and shamanic activities, including sauna experiences, aurora tours, cultural rituals, and nature excursions

Our mission is to provide guests with an immersive, soulful experience, and we plan to expand the village in the coming years with more accommodation units and themed activities.

The Story of Majatalo Jurtta

The journey of Arctic Shaman Village begins with Majatalo Jurtta, located in a historic building – the former Rauduskylä village school, built in 1951. For decades, the school served as a central gathering place for the local community – a place of learning, meetings, and celebrations.

Thanks to its prominent position along the Inarintie road, the building became a local landmark. In 1984, its rear wing was reconstructed. Today, the building is listed as a protected heritage site (sr-1-2) in the local zoning plan under the name “Leirilä – Old School”, due to its architectural, historical, and cultural value.

From Village School to Guesthouse

After the school closed, the building was privately acquired and carefully renovated for hospitality use, preserving its original spirit and structure. This gave rise to Majatalo Jurtta – a warm, homely guesthouse for travelers, skiers, and seekers of northern peace.

The name Jurtta (yurt) was inspired by the idea of combining Sámi and Mongolian yurt traditions with modern Nordic accommodation.

Arctic Shaman Village – Experience Center from 2025

In August 2025, Majatalo Jurtta enters a new era as the heart of the Arctic Shaman Village experience center – a place where accommodation, culture, and immersive Arctic experiences come together.

The courtyard will feature:
• 8 insulated 2-person yurts for authentic stays
• A Shaman’s Yurt for rituals, drum circles, and symbolic ceremonies
• A Sauna Yurt, recreating the spirit of traditional smoke saunas
• A Northern Lights Kota, where guests enjoy fireside dinners and silence

Experiences Rooted in Nature and Spirit

Arctic Shaman Village offers a rich selection of guided programs and activities, including:
• Aurora hunting and mystical night rides with the shaman
• Ice skating, ice fishing, and gold panning adventures
• Silent retreats and joik meditation
• Sauna rituals and spiritual drum journeys
• Visits to huskies and reindeer at the nearby Keo Wilderness site
• Cultural storytelling, memory rituals, and inner journeys

Majatalo Jurtta now serves as a bridge between history and future, offering peace, meaning, and connection in the Arctic wilderness. It is a place where northern myths, spiritual travel, and wellness meet, and where every visitor is invited to reconnect with themselves – and the magic of Lapland.
